Jeremiah Shields fell three runs short of his first senior hundred in the game against St Kevin's College as Union beat the college side by 45 runs.
Batting first, the home side got of to a great start with openers Antony Cromwell and Jeremiah Shields combined for a 127 run opening stand. Cromwell was the first to go out, caught of the bowling of O'Malley for 42 in the 25th over. Duncan Drew, who has been in good form the past few weeks, then combined with Shields to move the score through to 213 before the loss of Drew for 31. With the loss of Drew, Shields looked to anchor the innings coming within three runs of his debut century, but fell only three runs later and three runs short of a well deserved century. With the loss of Shields in the 43rd over, the Union batsmen looked to attack but some good fielding combined with accurate bowling pulled the batting side back and after the completion of 50 over's had 259-7 on the board. Matt Lilly was the best of the St Kevin's bowlers taking 4-38 with his last four over's reading 4-12, with Union looking like scoring well over 300 runs in the second straight week of Borton Cup play.
Englishman Chris Smith was the pick of the St Kevin's top order playing an aggressive innings as wickets fell at the other end. When he fell 10 runs short of his century, St Kevin's where 6 wickets down for 128 and Union right on top. Soon the flow of the game changed with T Gourley and Peter O'Malley combining for a solid 7th wicket partnership that put the jitters on the fielding side. It fell to Phil Crossan to break the partnership taking the wicket of Peter O'Malley for 17. It was let to Gourlay to play a lone hand but with the loss of his wicket for 57, St Kevin's hopes disappeared and at the completion of their innings were 45 runs short of Union's total. For Union Phil Crossan (3-44), Duncan Drew (3-27) and Paul Johnston (3-56) all took three wickets each.
Union now move into third equal with Oamaru, with Valley leading the competition by 10 points and Albion in second with Oamaru and Union a further 10 points Albion.
