Seniors Celebrate Conlans 100th with 10 wicket win
By Scott Cameron on Tuesday, 22 October 2019
The Union Senior team celebrated Sean Conlan's 100th Senior game for the club with a comprehensive 10 wicket win against Valley on the Don Field Artifical. The match was orginally scheduled to be played at King George Park, but with rain overnight it was moved to Don Field and reduced to 40 overs.
After Valley won the toss and elected to bat runs proved difficult to come by as the out field was slowed by heavy overnight rain, with some areas boggy in places. Extras proved to be top score of the innings with 27, while Neil Gilbert (21) and Ben Mavor (14) making double figures as Valley was bowled all out for 91 in just over 36 overs. All bowlers returned very economical figures with Matt Stewart (3-14 of 6.1 overs) taking three wickets, while Brad Fleming (2-17 of 8), Blake James (2-10 of 8) and Glynn Cameron (2-32 of 6) took two wickets each.
Union chased the total with a lot of freedom punishing the bad balls racing to the required total in less than 14 overs. Both captain Jeremiah Shields (43 not out) and Glynn Cameron (36 not out) seemed untroubled at the crease, helping their side to their side to the first 10 wicket win for Seniors since 2012, and third against Valley overall.
Valley 91 ( N. Gilbert 21, B. Mavor 14, M. Stewart 3-14, B. James 2-10, B. Fleming 2-17, G. Cameron 2-32 )
