Drew and Cameron combine to set new record
By Scott Cameron on Sunday, 30 October 2016
Glynn Cameron and Duncan Drew combined to set a new opening partnership in Union colors as seniors went to two from two in the Borton Cup so far this season.
After winning the toss and electing to bat the pair put on 212 for the opening wicket providing little opportunity for the Valley bowlers. Cameron was the first wicket out, just short of a well-deserved century for 95, while Drew (110) recorded his 8th senior century and his second against Valley. With the pair batting past the 40th over it was left for the remaining batsmen to hit out, with Sean Conlan (12*) and Dylan Edwards (10*) combining to put on 21 for the fourth wicket. For Valley only Hayden Tisdall took two wickets or more, finishing with 2-46 of his 10 overs.
Valley got off to a steady start with North Otago opener Lachlan Kingan (19) and Angus Gibb (7) putting on 35 for the first wicket before Kingan was caught by keeper Dylan Edwards of the bowling of Dan Conlan. Sam Bastin then ripped through the middle order taking 4-14 of his ten overs including a superb caught and bowled for the wicket of Hayden Tisdall (0). Bowling for the majority of his overs in tandem with Bastin, Conlan took 3-15 of his ten overs while Duncan Drew took 2-15 of his 3.2. Drew with his first wicket taking his 100th senior wicket when Andrew Harding was caught by Matt Lilley.
Seniors will now play WBHS at KGP this coming weekend in a clash of the two top of the table teams.
