Union and School played on the School wicket on Saturday. Union batting first lost the first four wickets cheap, three of these batsmen being run out before the score reached double figures. Gale opened carefully and waited for the ball to hit until he and Ongley had improved the position. Then he opened up and scored very fast, hitting 24 off one over from Macallan. He got out at last in going for another big hit of the same bowler. Ongley shaped very quietly while Gale was in, but with the score looking safe, he too went for the bowling, and with Arnold and Maddox put on 100 runs after the innings looked to be finished. Both he and Gale were badly and expensively missed and Ongley was lucky to survive an appeal for a catch behind the wicket, but that was late in his innings. Macallan bowled well for school.
