Union started the season on a bright note beating St Kevin's comprehensively by 200 runs at King George Park.
Batting first Union made 264 with Duncan Drew (92 not out), Mark Wilson (42), and Glynn Cameron (40) being the chief contributors. Mark Wilson with his 42 has now scored more runs than Bob Pile and moved into 4th position in most senior runs for the club in the past 50 years. Duncan Drew continued his brilliant Union senior carer with steady 92 not out.
St Kevin's were immediately in trouble when pace bowler Neville Donaldson bowled Daniel Gard and spinner Paul Johnston bowled J Heasley. Constantly under pressure though the loss of wickets, St Kevin's folded to be all out for the small total of 64. Matt George (20) and Craig Smith (17) were the only ones to score over 10 runs in the innings. For Union Neville Donaldson picked up two wickets and Paul Johnston picked up one wicket, but the bowling of John Crombie really took its toll on the St Kevin's batting. At one stage he was sitting on a hat-trick and he took the final five wickets for no runs.
