It took John Crombie over a decade of Senior Cricket but he finally scored his first Senior Century in the game against Valley at King George Park. Moving his performance with the ball from last week to the bat this week he single handily guided Union to its score of 189.
Batting first Union lost its first wicket with the total on 18 in the 5th over to the bowling of Brad Kernahan. A partnership of 53 then followed between John Crombie and Robert Coates . Robert Coates was next out to Daniel Keno by leg before wicket. Duncan Drew (0) and Peter Rudduck (14) soon followed but a good partnership between Crombie and captain Peter Cameron (14) put Union back on track for a defend able total. Union was bowled out the final over of its innings with the total at 189. For Valley Brad Kernahan was very economical conceding only 28 runs of 14 over. S Mavor bowled well at the end of the Union innings and took 3 wickets for 53 runs.
Valley were never really looking like taking the match when they were batting continually losing wickets throughout their innings. Only the batting through of Craig Smith (74) did Valley offer any resistance and hope of beating Union. For Union Craig Wilson in his bowling performance of the year took 4 wickets for 45 runs. Neville Donaldson was in great support conceding only 15 runs in his 7 over's.
