Union started of the Dick Hunt competition with a win over Valley at King George Park.

Union captain Peter Cameron won the toss and elected to field in a cold and overcast day. The highlight of the Valley innings was three batsmen making over twenty but not going on to make a big score. For Union John Crombie took 5-43 and Paul Johnston took three quick wickets for figures of 3-17. Valley lost their last three wickets on their eventual total of 146.

Union looked to be in trouble with the score on 5-63 losing experienced players Mark Wilson (14) and opener Glynn Cameron (10) in the process, but as always Duncan Drew managed to make a good score of 46 not out and was well supported by all-rounder John Crombie who scored 36.
