For only the second time since 1980 Union won the Dick Hunt Memorial Rosebowl on Saturday in the final played at Centennial Park.

Union batted first on a pitch that had produced over 600 runs in a Shell Cup Representative game and only made the small total of 142. On the first ball Union were immediately in trouble losing opener Daniel Gard and then Tony Moore (3) with the score only on 6. Two good partnerships then followed with the first being a 43 runs between Paul Johnston (15) and Steven Ridley (30) and then Ridley and Gavin Strachan (20) leaving Union 82-4 but disaster soon followed. Union lost 6 wickets for only 27 runs but a good partnership of 33 for the final wicket between Brendon Sidon (16) and Ian Cooney (16 not out) added some respectability to the Union total, leaving Union with the small total 142.

Valley made a good start and looked to be cruising at 65-2 but soon lost J Mavor (6), C Manson (0) , and then Brad Kernahan (2) to leave them still needing 72 with only 5 wickets remaining. Valley never really recovered losing its last 5 wickets for 29 runs. For Union Paul Johnston bowled brilliantly taking 6-16 of ten over's. Ian Cooney provided good support at the opposites end taking 3-18 of his ten over's. Steven Ridley was the other wicket taker finishing on 1-10.
