Seniors make final lower grades miss out
Monday, 27 January 2014

The Union Senior team will defend the Dick Hunt Rosebowl in the holiday competition final this coming Saturday after qualifying second at the completion of round robin play.

Gaining 10 points for the bye, the question for the round was who would be their opposition for the final with Albion playing Oamaru in a virtual semi-final. Albion came out top and due to defeating Union way back in Octobers round 1, they will be top qualifiers.

In Senior Reserves cricket, Union had a tough battle facing Eastern in Waikouaiti with only a victory giving them a chance of making the final. They pushed their opposition close but ended up losing by three wickets to miss out on the final.

The second graders had already missed out on their final but still had a 5 wicket win over Oamaru with Jami Scrivener top scoring with 34 runs.

Oamaru 145 ( K. Burke 30, A. Simpson 27, R. Napier 2-6, J. Scrivener 2-21 )
Union 146-5 ( J. Scrivener 34no, D. Martin 23no, C. Lavery 2-25 )
Union won by 5 wickets

Union 157 ( H. Robertson 40, N. Donaldson 31, C. Robertson 17, T. Dempster 3-28, J. McLean 2-15, D. Oldham 2-16 )
Eastern SR 158-7 ( M. O'Connell 64, B. Primmer 40, S. Oliver 12, K. Sidon 2-22 )
Eastern SR won by 3 wicket
