The Union senior team continue to set the standard in Senior Borton Cup cricket with a dominant 8 wicket win over bottom placed St Kevin's yesterday.

With a win meaning the Payne Tempero stays at KGP for the winter and also the Senior Minor Premiership for Union, St Kevin's won the toss and elected to bat first. Losing opener Ratgali (0) in the first over, Ben Cant and Kingan combined for a 87 run partnership for the second wicket before the loss of the wicket of Cant for 37. This was the start of a collapse as Glynn Cameron and Paul Johnston ripped through the middle and lower order with St Kevin's losing 9 wickets for only 27 runs. When Johnston came on to bowl some highly accurate bowling saw him take 4 wickets in 6 balls, including a hatrick during which all wickets taken were bowled. St Kevin's all out for 114, with Johnston taking 5-12 of his 3 overs and Cameron 3-26 of 8.

Union started badly in its chase with opener Glynn Cameron caught at slip to the bowling of Flannery for 1 with the score on 2 during the second over. This brought out Jason Todd who then combined with Duncan Drew to effectively put the school team out with the match with a 88 run partnership for the second wicket. Drew was out 1 run short of a deserved half-century, caught of the bowling of Matt Brien. Todd then took command of the chase and lead his side to a 8 wicket victory hitting three fours of the final over of the innings. Todd finished with 32 not out, and Sean Conlan 6 not out, as Union completed its second consecutive season of being undefeated in Payne Tempero matches and retained a trophy it has held since November 2011.

Seniors remain the only team to be undefeated in Borton Cup cricket for 2013-14 and with the victory are now guaranteed of being the top qualifier for the Borton Cup semi's on the 15th of March. Being the top qualifier they also are Minor Premiers for 2013-14 and retain the David Sewell Shield which they won last season.
