The Union senior side cruised through to the Borton Cup final with a comprehensive 8 wicket win over Valley at King George Park.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Union made an early breakthrough to leave Valley 7-1 after the completion of the 7th over. Nick Webster and Bryon Nearle then looked to bring their side back into the game putting on 30 together before Nearle was bowled by Mike Ormandy. Lachie Kingan was out the following ball, as Valley looked to be starting to crumble under the accurate Union bowling unit. Such was their accuracy that the first 10 overs saw only 20 runs conceded with no extras. The Union attack soon started to roll through the Valley innings taking wickets constantly and no solid partnerships formed. Paul Johnston was in fine form taking the last 5 wickets to finish with 5-15 of his six, while Mike Ormandy (2-12) and Brad Fleming (2-37) took two wickets each. Valley all out for 98 in 33 overs.

Union started strongly with North Otago openers Jeremiah Shields and Glynn Cameron effectively putting Valley out of the game with a 77 run opening stand. Despite the loss of one further wicket, Union was on top of the match and when the required target was reached Cameron was 1 short of a half century finishing with 49 not out.

Union will now play Albion in the Borton Cup final next week going for 5 Borton Cup Championships in 6 seasons.
