The Union and High School teams played an interesting match on King George's Park yesterday on a good wicket. The outfield as a result of the previous days' rain was less fiery than hitherto this season, and the scoring was not so rapid. The School, batting first, made 66 runs, of which Ralfe's contribution was by far the most meritorious. He has a neat, crisp style, but is apt to get into trouble when playing back. McGruer made his strokes by unorthodox but effective methods, and Smith shaped well until Todd caught him very finely in the long field. Brooker and Smith halved the wickets, the former coming a little with his arms and keeping a good length. Union shaped poorly at the outset of their innings, and had lost four wickets for double the figures when Turner went in. Not long after Turner mishit a ball to point, who had the misfortune to drop it, changing the whole complexion of the game, for Turner and Haig went on and made the winning hit. Haig's drives over third man's head and other extra-ordinary strokes caused the score to mount rapidly until McGruer bowled him. Turner was caught and bowled by Uttley, and the other members of the side did not last long. Union won by 25 runs. School went in again and had lost six wickets for 79 when time was called.
