Oamaru v. Union
Friday, 12 November 1920

James M. Robertson
James M. Robertson

Oamaru and Union teams met on King George's Park yesterday, and, although the home team had what was in its power to make the conditions fit for cricket, the game was more or less marred by the long grass in the outfield, and the uncertainties of the wicket. Oamaru batted first, and fared badly. Grahame, bowling with a new ball and aided by the wind, was swinging them a lot, and this, coupled with an admirable length, made him very effective. He got Uttley early, the batsman being misled into having a go at what appeared to be a ball on leg, only to find that it had come in and got his wicket. Hargreaves and Zimmerman succumbed to shooters from J. Robertson, and the other members of the side shaped very weakly, Graham doing the hatrick at the expense of the last three. Union lost Todd quickly, but Gale and the Stott's stayed long enough to make double figures. J. Stott, who had made two centuries in his previous efforts, got 14 per medium of two sixes and a two, and then well caught by Saxton deep over the bowlers head. Saxton also made a fine catch in dismissing Gale.
