The Union Senior side cruised through to an easy 9 wicket win against the Waitaki Boys side.
Missing a number of players due to other commitments, and with only 4 recognized bowlers, the team produced one of their best fielding efforts for the season. After Waitaki got of to a good start being 27-0 after 3 over's, they then collapsed to be all out for 84. For Union opening bowler Thomas Shields provided the break through at the top of the order taking 3 wickets for 35. First change bowlers John Crombie and Glynn Cameron then ripped through the rest of batting taking 7 wickets between them. Crombie, after taking 2 wickets in his first over, finished with a well deserved 4-8 of 3.2 over's. Cameron continued his fine bowling form for the season taking 3-8 including a superb reflex caught and bowled. Isaac Shields marked his debut game with two good catches at square leg. Waitaki losing its last 9 wickets for the addition of only 40 runs.
Openers Thomas Shields and his twin Jeremiah Shields combined for a 71 run opening stand to effectively dismiss what little chance Waitaki had to come back into the game. After the fall of Thomas Shields for 21, Jeremiah Shields then hit 2 fours and 1 six in three consecutive balls to bring up a well deserved half century and a win to Union.
