Oamaru v. Union

Fred W Ongley
Fred W Ongley

The Oamaru and Union teams met on King George's Park on Saturday. The matting wicket was dead and the grass in the outfield long, so that scoring by ground strokes was difficult. Oamaru batted first and made only 52, of which Hargreaves got 14, though Uttley and Crimp both batted well for eight each. Union opened with McBeath and Ongley. The latter hit more freely than usual and made 54 quickly. Gale was not out when time was called with 57 to his credit, made chiefly by lofty drives, 30 being scored in sixes. Union had scored 163 for five wickets when play stopped for the day.
