Union opened up the 2008-2009 Borton Cup season with a comprehensive 10 wicket win over a weekend Valley side.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Valley where soon in trouble with Phil Crossan taking a wicket in his very first over. As the innings progressed the Valley batsman struggled against the accurate in-swing bowling of Crossan as he started to pile up the wickets. Valley finished all out for 78, with a rare occurrence in a cricket game - all wickets taken where bowled. Crossan was rewarded for his tight bowling taking 6-37, while Glynn Cameron took 2-16. Dan Conlon took the other wicket (Valley had 10 players) finishing with 1-11.
The Union openers of Duncan Drew and James Cutt looked rarely troubled with both scoring 33 not out in an unbroken opening stand of 79. Union winning the match by 10 wickets.
