On Saturday at King George's Park Union played the annual match with Celtic, Timaru's premier club. The wicket and outfield were wet at the outset, and the bowlers found it hard to keep their feet and to handle the ball. But under the influence of a hot sun, the wicket dried quickly and the bowlers held the advantage. Celtic batted first and made only 47, to which Union replied with 81, J. Granger played an invaluable innings for 23 not out, when it was badly wanted. McWhirter, the South Canterbury bowler, took six wickets for 36.
