The Union Senior team got its season underway with two from two in the first weekend of club cricket for 2020-21.

In the first non competition game seniors took on a very youthful Albion side, and proved to strong as they won chased down Albions 63 all out in less than 7 overs. Both Thomas Shields (34*) and Blake James (21*) were dominat with the bat reaching the boundary 9 times in theirn unbroken 61 run partnership.

Earlier Albion had looked to be in good stead however when Union took the wicket of Tom Squire to leave the score at 40-3 the Albion team collapsed to be all out for 63. Leg spinner Jack Cameron (3-3) ripped through the middle order taking all of his three wickets in one over, while Blake Martin (2-5) and Aneesh Kumar (2-16) took two wickets each. Squire the only batsman to pass 20.

In the second game Union played last seasons newcomers Glenavy, and after winning the toss elected to bat reaching 188-6 in their 20 overs. Brad Fleming looked to be in good touch for the coming season scoring 51 (5 4s and 2 6s), while Blake James backed up his earlier effort with 48. Incompant North Otago captain Jeremiah Shields also found some good touches with 43 at the top of the order.

With only 9 men in the batting order Glenavy never really looked like they would pose a serious challenge which proved correct as they were bowled all out for 67 in the 15th over. Fleming proved to be difficult taking 3-14 in his economical 3.1 overs, while Happy Singh (2-22) and Blake James (2-6) make significant contributions.

With such a good start Seniors will be looking to contiune the fine form as they head into the first round of the Borton Cup this coming saturady against Waitaki Boys High School.
