For the second year in a row the Union Senior team missed out in an first win in the Tui 20/20 tournament this time losing to Albion by three wickets in the final.
Earlier Union had posted 143 against an under strength Valley side with Glynn Cameron continuing his rich reign of club form top scoring recording 33 not out with 6 fours and a six. The Union openers got Union of to a good starting putting on 51 before Jeremiah Shields was caught and bowled for 20. Fellow opener Mitchell Clarke soon followed with 27. Ben Cant at three was the other main scorer with 20.
Union looked to be cursing to victory with Valley struggling with the score on 84 after 15 over's. With the required run rate at 12 an over, captain Hamish McKenzie soon took to the bowlers with 19 coming of Dan Conlan's third over. McKenzie was at the crease in the final over but his effort wasn't enough as Valley fell two short of an unlikely victory. For Union Chris Ware returned the outstanding figures of 4 over's, 1 maiden, 1 wicket, 3 runs.
The top order of the Union innings got them of to a good start being 49-1 of seven over's but struggled to accelerate the run-rate in the final over's to leave them 138-5 of their 20 over's. Mitchell Clarke put in another good performance at the top of the order recording 36, while Ben Cant top scored with 44 and Sean Conlan scored 23.
Union got of to a perfect start having Albion 8-2 in the second over and then 4-41 with danger man Brad Kernahan out for a quick fire 18. The further wicket of Pringle for 1, left Union right on top but Gareth Duncan and Paul Odell combined with a 80 run partnership to effectively put the game out of reach. With the wicket of Duncan for 34, it was left to Odell and captain Dylan Winter to see their side through to victory and the 2011 Tui 20/20 Championship.
