Two from Two in Dick Hunt 20/20

The Union Cricket Club senior team made it two from two in the opening rounds of the Dick Hunt Holiday competition at King George Park on Saturday.

The home team started the day against Valley, putting them into bat after winning the toss. With some good bowling from Union, Valley struggled to gain momentum notching up 103 runs of their 20 over's. Tom Squire was the top scorer for Valley being 35 not out with three boundaries and a six. Duncan Drew was the best of the Union bowlers, his slow left arm spin picking up 3-19 of his four over's. Glynn Cameron took 2-19 of his fours over's.

Union lost two wickets early in its chase but Drew and Sean Conlan then combined to put the out of reach for Valley. Conlan was out for 26, while Drew was 32 not out when the total was reached.

The second game saw Union win the toss again and once again the opposition was put into bat. It was a repeat of the earlier game as Oamaru struggled to gain momentum and when their 20 over's were complete they had scored 120 runs. Anthony Sewell (26) and Ben Coleman (28) where the main run scorers. Drew was once again one of the best of the Union bowlers with 2 for 32, while Cameron took 2 for 19. Isaac Shields took 2 for 19 of his four over's.

The Union opening batsmen of Antony Cromwell and Jeremiah Shields had the game firmly in their teams hands when Shields was stumped by Regan George of the bowling of Paul Selbie for 18. Cromwell was in devastating form scoring 53 with some big hitting right through the innings. When he was caught just inside the square leg boundary he had hit 7 boundaries and 1 six. Union passed the required total just three wickets down in the 17th over. Sean Conlan was the second best of the Union batsmen with 22.
