It was a great batting performance that saw the Senior team pull of a 48 run victory over Valley at Weston Park.
Missing a number of regular team members and only managing to find 10 players, Union lost the toss and was forced to bat. Losing the wickets of Thomas Shields (1), Ryan Whitburn (4) and Duncan Drew (2) early Jeremiah Shields and Glynn Cameron looked to consolidate and retain wickets. With a thick outfield and difficult wicket runs were had to come by as the two crawled Union through to 59-3 after 22 over's before the loss of Cameron for 14. Johnston soon followed 6 over's later for 4. Chris Ware and Shields then put together a partnership of 56 before the loss of Ware for 28 on the last ball of the 49th over. Jeremiah Shields was out in the final over of the innings top scoring for the match with 40.
Valley got of to a bad start and never really recovered. Losing their first three wickets in the first three over's, they were all out for 75 in the 30th over. Chris Ware and Glynn Cameron knocked the top of the Valley innings taking 4-20 and 3-11 respectively. Isaac Shields took the important wicket of Geoff Mavor for 14 before being replaced at the bowling crease while Paul Johnston (2-22) finished of the tail.
