The Union Senior team crusied to victory with an impressive 8 wicket victory over Eastern at King George Park yesterday. The match doubled as a Borton Cup and Dick Hunt final as a captains agreement last week from the two sides saw the game used as a reserve day for the Dick Hunt Final.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Eastern struggled to get any momentum in their innings losing wickets constantly throughout their innings. The five wickets put together 59 runs, with all the runs of the bat going to Cameron Grubb as he tried to give his team a defendable total. He was the last wicket to fall in the innings, caught by Jeremiah Shields of the bowling of Brad Fleming for 57, as Eastern were all out for 124 in the 37th over. Fleming took 3-35, Paul Johnston took 3-21 while Matt Lilley continued the great form he has been in since his return from injury took 2-19 of his ten overs. In the field Sean Conlan took two stunning catches, one above his head and another diving forward.
Union got of to a fast start with openers Jake Greenslade and Glynn Cameron hitting the bowlers all over the park and at a rate of more than a run a ball. When Cameron was out for 30 in the 12th over, they had effectively put Eastern out of the match putting on 89 for the first wicket. The wicket of Greenslade was taken the following over for 50, his first half-century at senior level, but Duncan Drew (21*) and captain Jeremiah Shields (12) took their side through to the required target. Oldham for Eastern was the only bowler to take 2 wickets or more finishing with 2-16 of his 5 overs.
