It looked to be total well bellow par on the artificial wicket however a heavy outfield make scoring runs along the ground difficult.

Union started its chase badly losing openers Jeremiah Shields and Glynn Cameron early to leave then 2-11. Thomas Shields, in his final game before departing for Europe to play rugby, then combined with Duncan Drew to bring their side back into the match to move the score 112 before Shields was caught by Dodd of the bowling of Andrew Grubb for 37. Union was moving to victory thanks to this partnerships but Eastern was still in the match starting to apply pressure on the visitors by taking wickets at constant intervals. It came down to the final overs but extras let Eastern down badly with 4 of the final 11 runs coming from wides. One run was required of the final over and a single was taken of the third ball, Fleming calling Edwards through for a quick single and victory for Union. Cameron Grubb was the main wicket taker of the innings with 4-35 while younger brother Andrew Grubb, who started the innings wicket keeping, took 3-27.

Seniors now lie in second place after two rounds and play Oamaru/St Kevins who had a narrow loss to Valley.
