The Union Senior team remains in the running in the Dick Hunt competition after beating Valley by 5 wickets at King George Park.
Valley won the toss and elected to bat notching up 187 in 50 overs. Hayden Tisdall top scored with 75, while Geoff Mavor contributed 33 in the final overs. For Union Glynn Cameron (2-34), Phil Crossan (2-39) and Brad Fleming (2-18) all took two wickets each.
Union started badly in its chase with opener Ryan Whitburn out without scoring, Jeremiah Shields and Duncan Drew then moved the total to 44 before Drew was bowled by Nick Kelland for 16. They lost the wicket of North Otago rep Sean Conlan 12 runs later before the Shields twins combined for 25 runs. Jeremiah Shields was the next batsman out top scoring for the innings with 44 before Thomas Shields and Glynn Cameron put on 38 for the 5th wicket. With 68 runs still required for victory the game was still evenly poised at 120-5 but Jake Greenslade, making his Union Senior debut, then combined with Cameron in his 252nd Union Senior match, to see their team through in the 46th over. Cameron was 40 not out at the end of the innings with Greenslade 17 not out.
