The Union Cricket Club Senior run of Borton Cup Championships was brought to a halt in the weekend with a comprehensive defeat to Albion in the semi-final played at Whitestone Contracting Stadium.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Albion got of to a slow start being 46-2 of 20 overs. Wickets in hand however was proven to be critical as they then scored 60 runs in the final ten overs to finish 174-9 of 50 overs. Matt Day top scored with 36, while Peter Cartwright (23), Brad Kernahan (23) and Gareth Duncan (22) made some good contributions. For Union Matt Lilley (2-32), Brad Fleming (2-27) and Paul Johnston (28) were the best of the Union bowlers.

Union got of to a bad start losing opener Glynn Cameron in the first over without scoring and things didn't improve at all during the innings. Putting in its worst performance with the bat this season, they constantly lost wickets with no partnerships and batsmen looking uncomfortable facing the Albion attack. It ended in the 24th over of the innings, when Matt Lilley was bowled by Tom Hoornweg, Union all out for 69. a loss of 105 runs.

The loss ends the incredible streak started five seasons ago, when the team beat Oamaru in the 2009-10 final and then dominated the following three, to win the Borton Cup four seasons in a row.
