Three stalwarts of the Union Cricket Club where honoured recently at a special ceremony held by at the Otago Cricket Associations long room at the University Oval in Dunedin. The three (Peter Cameron, Ted Tempero and Russell Payne) where awarded an ICC medal each from New Zealand Cricket President Don Neely to acknowledge their service to cricket in the North Otago and Otago region. The medals, of which there are only 50 to be presented in New Zealand, have been created by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to celebrate 100 years since its founding and are awarded to those who have made a special contribution to cricket.

In total seven recipients received the medals from the Otago region with three from North Otago, three from Dunedin and two from Otago Country.

In a press release from New Zealand Cricket upon the announcement of the medals Sir Richard Hadllee said “It is hugely important that we recognize volunteers. We should never underestimate this."

There are so many people we never hear about and don’t know what they do, but who are so influential to a team or to the development of a sport."
