Oamaru v. Union

G Gregory
G Gregory

Union having returned to the Senior competition, met Oamaru on a wicket that was slow, but gave the bowlers little assistance, except that the ball did not come through at a consistent pace. Oamaru batted first and made 150, of which Zimmerman, after a somewhat streaky start got 51, including some powerful drives and pulls, and Sumpter made 39, largely on the off. McDonald was the most successful of the Union bowlers, taking seven wickets for 36. Union made a weak start although McBeath kept his end up, and it was left for J. Robertson and Gregory to help him out with the score.
