A great chase from the Union top order saw Union successfully defend the Payne Tempero Cup at King George Park.
With a target of 191 Union got of to a good start with Duncan Drew and Antony Cromwell providing a 45 run opening stand before the loss of Drew (14) and then Cromwell (25) saw Union falter somewhat at 52-2. Batting at three in order saw the in-from batsman Thomas Shields at the crease while Glynn Cameron, back from Hawke Cup duties, and the two combined for a match winning 113 run partnership. Shields was eventually bowled for 56, his first Senior 50 for Union. Cameron was their at the end finishing with 44 not out while Jeremiah Shields hit two sixes and one four to finish with 17 not out. A win to Union by 7 wickets with 5.3 over's to spare.
Earlier St Kevin's where put into bat and due to some tight bowling struggled to score runs freely. Opening bowler Dan Conlan after his first spell of five over's had figures of 1-9 with two maidens. It was only in the last 15 over's when they started to pile on the pressure moving the score to 190 after being on 74 after the 30th, thanks mainly to big hitter Tomas Squire who hit 90 with 8 sixes. For Union Paul Johnston took 4-43 in his 8 over's while Glynn Cameron took 3-20 in 10 very economical over's.
