Seniors Crush Albion
By Scott Cameron on Tuesday, 3 March 2020
The Union Cricket Club Senior team are still on top of the Borton Cup standings after a 8 wicket win over Albion at the Outer Oval. With one week left of league play they look on track to be the top qualifier for the semi finals starting in a fortnight.
Albion won the toss, electing to field, but found scoring runs difficult with the Union bowlers being difficult to get away. Jordy Whyte, although not getting any wickets, proved to be especially difficult going for only 9 runs in his 7 overs. Martin (42) and Tom Squire (30) were the only batsmen really get going as Albion recorded 148 runs in, all out in the 49th over. For Union all bowlers were very economical with Brad Fleming taking 4-33 of his 10, while Garry Singh (3-38) and Blake James (3-21) took three wickets each.
It was a captains knock from Jeremiah Shields that helped led Union to victory. In dominant form he combined with Cromwell (4) to put on 40 for the opening wicket and then 94 with Glynn Cameron (26) to put the game firmly in Union's control. When the target was reached he had 88 to his name and Union was only two wickets down in the 30th over. His team remains unbeaten in Borton Cup cricket so far this season and look on track for a home semi final at King George Park in a fortnight.
