Duncan Drew and James Cutt set Union up with a big 133 run opening stand against the Waitaki Boys High School 1st XI.

After constant drizzle for an hour before the match threatened to delay the start, Union won the toss and elected to bat with time started at the regular time.

Openers Duncan Drew and James Cutt got Union of to the best possible start combining for a 133 run opening stand before the loss of Drew for a fine 70. Thomas Shields was the next one in but was bowled by Dickinson for 6, before the loss of Cutt just one short of his half-century saw Union have a min collapse and leave them 3-152 and 10 over's left in the innings. Veterans Glynn Cameron and Mark Wilson then sought about increasing the run rate both playing the required aggressive innings that was required. At the close of the innings after 45 over's, Cameron and Wilson had provided an unbeaten 81 run partnership, Cameron finishing with 40 not out and Wilson 32 not out. Union setting a target of 234 for a Waitaki victory, a total that could have been a lot more had it not been for a very slow and wet outfield.

Waitaki were soon in trouble losing captain Anthony Sewell for a royal golden duck, caught out by Duncan Drew of the bowling of Dan Conlan. Throughout the innings there was some good partnerships and contributions but they never looked like they where going to challenge the Union total. Duncan Drew in taking three catches, including a great diving catch to dismiss Stu Dickinson, and what may be the catch of the season - a diving one handed catch to finish the Waitaki innings, moved to 101 career catches to become only the fourth player to take 100 catches in a career for the Union Senior team. Another personal milestone was reached with Phil Crossan taking 5 wickets in the innings, including his 100th Senior wicket for the Union club. Daniel Conlan (3-31) and Glynn Cameron (2-18) where the other wicket takers.
